There are lots of sciatica treatment options available to sufferers, which basically fall into two categories: mainstream and alternative.
A typical doctor will offer mainstream sciatica treatment as follows:
1 Rest. Complete rest helps to relieve the pain, but it is not a solution. Doctors will prescribe rest in order to allow the patient to try other remedies such as exercise.
2. Exercise is generally recommended by doctors in order to try and improve mobility and help to strengthen muscles in the back, which is thought to reduce the pressure on the nerve.
3 Medicines. Sciatica symptoms can be reduced with anti inflammatory drugs, muscle relaxant drugs, and painkillers.
If these steps are tried without lasting success than people often turn to alternative therapies for sciatica relief. While doctors do not recommend practices such as acupuncture, massage, chiropractics, yoga, or the Alexander Technique, this is usually because they are not completely understood by the medical profession.
In order for a doctor to recommend a treatment, it must prove itself in the form of multiple trials, involving hundreds of patients studied over a long period of time. Obviously this takes a significant amount of money to complete, which is simply not available for many alternative therapies.
On the other hand, drug companies have vast budgets to spend on such research, which is why doctors understand them much more accurately.
The fact that doctors don’t prescribe alternative therapies for sciatica relief is often times seen as proof that they don’t work. However, if you read some of the countless success stories it really does change your viewpoint.
People who have been looking for literally years for an effective sciatica treatment found that modern medicine was pretty much useless. Instead they unexpectedly found their cure in an alternative therapy that they had previously been very sceptical of.
