Are you looking for fast and pain-free sciatica treatment? This has been my aim for the last few years and I have trawled just about every site available on the subject.
I reckon that I must have spent over 6 months hours reading info and advice on the web about how to get relief from sciatica. Although there were points when I thought I’d found the perfect cure, the sciatica would eventually come back. This never-ending process of trial and error without success can really wear down your hopes of recovery.
Then one day I was on the web and coincidentally I saw a book and dvd pack called “Lose the Back Pain”. I thought it was a chance worth taking and bought myself a copy. It turns out that it’s book is a sciatica treatment bible, and has worked wonders for me.
If you’re interested in this product, you can find it here: -

I have sciatica pains I’ve tried Diclofenac and Tramadol, and Tylex and Naproxen. Still suffer, does anyone know of anything better?
Diclofenac and Naproxen are much of a muchness… i.e they are both anti inflams and if one doesnt work im not really suprised the other one doesnt.
I would try diazepam. Its a muscle relaxant and it really does work for my back. But it is addictive, but im sure you know all that jazz if you’ve taken tramadol etc before.
Maybe try dihyrdocodeine… its stronger than normal codeine and works much better. I found diazepam best as it relaxes the muscles putting pressure on the nerve and therefore pain is gone!
good luck x
What exercises should I do and what exercises should I avoid to help this along? I got me an exercise ball and I’m doing things like bridges and crunches and walking the ball. I heard that aerobic exercise will also help. My L4/L5 disc is pressing on my sciatic nerve and that is what is causing the pain. Should I avoid running because it will create pressure on the bulging disc, discouraging it from resorption? Or should I stick to things like swimming, biking, and elliptical?
I also love weight lifting can I lift weights, or should I avoid that until my back is healed? It’s quite annoying because I want to do more intense exercise and get in good shape but I’m limited in which exercises I can do because of the back and leg pain. It makes me tire quicker and makes me feel old ![]()
It will take FOREVER. If you know that you have issues with bulging discs, WHY are you even lifting? Seriously, anything that requires you to place any kind of stress on your lower back will irritate a very important nerve and if you do not see a doctor or physical therapist to advise you as to what stretches and easy exercises to you, you can and will permanently damage the nerve, not to mention the L4/L5 disc that is already apparently compromised.
I have been undiagnosed with sciatica but I am 100% positive that I’ve had it because of my symptoms (in my front right thigh), it started in around oct 2010 and it was an on/off numbness. Now it’s back and it hurts pretty bad. Any idea how to get rid of it? It never hurt enough to go to the doctor but I did suggestions online and they didn’t work. Thanks!
If you feel the pain go down your leg or wrap around your hip, you may be suffering from sciatica. In it’s worst state, you will feel painful electrical charges in your foot as the nerve wraps around your pelvis and hip and back down the back of the leg through the buttocks.
Please see your doctor for a muscle relaxant like flexerall only by prescription to stop your muscles from squeezing the nerve on your left side. You can use a combination of non prescribed medication to try and hit the areas that are most annoying; however, 50mg-150mg indomethicin oral or anal works the absolute best for your back.
1. I used to use a combination of medications which included 400mg Ibuprofen 4x a day with food. This takes the swelling and inflammation down. DO NOT exceed1600mg in one day and you may need prilosec for stomach protection as ALL ANTI INFLAMMATORIES are difficult on the stomach. ***You can use Tylenol with Ibuprofen and Aspirin watch for daily maximums & don’t exceed.
2. Robaxacet is Tylenol (acetominophen) combined with methocarbonal (muscle relaxant)…this also comes with codeine on request from the pharmacist. This only relaxes any tight muscles around the pain and helps reduce some pain. You can use Robaxacet with Ibuprofen and Aspirin, BUT NOT Tylenol as it’s already an ingredient in this pill.
3. Robaxacyl is Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) combines with methocarbonal (muscle relaxant)…this has a blood thinning active ingredient and isn’t ideal for anyone under age 16 years or complications with blood pressure, ailments, etc. This both takes down the inflammation as well as treats the pain. You can use Robaxacyl with Ibuprofen and Tylenol, BUT NOT Aspirin as it’s already an ingredient in this pill.
————————————–…
4. Aleve is a Nonsteroidal Anti Inflammatory (Naproxen) which will helps reduce the inflammation, and as the inflammation decreases so does the pain; BUT you CANNOT mix this drug with any of the above mentioned safely.
5. Dynamint has been used on horses legs for years, but it does an amazing job on sore muscles. It’s ingredients are Peppermint Oil, Eucalyptus Oil , Tea Tree Oil and Calendula Oil.
6. Deep Cold Gold is an alternative rub that works very well on tight aching back & low back tendons.
It’s serious as you well know from the pain. You will need to treat it with ICE for 20 minutes on and off every 2.5 hours in your butt cheek and the heart of the pain. You can put a heating pad on your low back afterwards.
You will need to see your doctor if this progressively gets worse. You can request Flexerill (muscle relaxant) to relaxe the muscles from contracting around the pinched nerve. You may also require pain medicaiton depending on the severity.
I do not find much comfort with the chiropractor but it doesn’t hurt to check in with yours for normal maintenance and his opinion on sciatica so you can decide what road you want to take.
Physio, Kinesiology, and Yoga are the best for treatment. I usually hit the hot tub and steam room at the pool and stretch in the warm environment.
Lie on your back and pull your knee to your chest and hold for 20 secs. Do it to the other side too and repeat.
Grab both knees to your chest and hold for 20 secs. Bring to the center, and gently rock to the left side and the right side still holding on to your knees for approximately 10 times and repeat. This relieves a lot of the discomfort.
You can also learn to stretch and touch your toes lying on the floor with you bum. Stetch to your shin and hold 20 secs, stretch to your ankle and hold 20 secs, stretch to your arch and hold for 20 secs, and eventually you’ll be able to hold the bottom of your feet.
I find these exercises not only alleviate my suffering, but it prevents the re-occurrence. I know because as long as I do them I never even have an episode, but it takes a long time to heal the memory of back pain.

You can give this one a go, it worked for me!
Don’t know, never heard of that option. Have had sciatica and after 5 months of waiting finally referred to a physio-therapist. She corrected it within days.
So, I have left sided Sciatica affecting the buttock, the side of my thight, rear of my knee, the top of my calf and pins and needles in the foot. I’m on a waiting list for physiotherapy however the pain is getting worse, pain killers don’t help, even those that were prescribes so I need help until the physio starts.
Any suggestions!?
You need to free up muscles to get rid of the pain, not exercise them. You get your sciatic pain when your lower back muscles are tight for they can press against the nerves, including the sciatic, going to your legs to cause the pains in them. To get rid of the sciatic pain you have to free up your back muscles to get the pressure off the nerves and here’s how to do that:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side. Repeat if any pain seems left over.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
The main symptom of sciatica is pain that radiates through the buttock and down the back of the thigh and leg. The pain may stop below the knee or continue right down to the foot. Pain from sciatica can change: it can be shooting or burning, sharp or dull, non-stop, or intermittent. Pain is usually only felt on one side of the body.
You most likely have mechanical back syndrome, but the treatment is the same for Sciatica. In it’s worst state, you will feel painful electrical charges in your foot as the nerve wraps around your pelvis and hip and back down the back of the leg through the buttocks.
Anytime you feel numbness or tingling in an extremity it is VITAL that you get to a doctor as soon as you can to have it checked out. If there is an impingement that cuts off the circulation, you can lose the limb, so please get to a doctor.

Does anyone else have Sciatica (nerve down the leg that radiates almost electrical shock feeling and numbness in the foot or leg)? It doesn’t feel like my back hurts, but it’s my buttock, one side only. Sometimes the pain is so bad I almost cry. What can you do to treat this and how long will it last? I have osteo-arthritis in my lower back, and sometimes I feel this pain may never go away because of the condition of my spine. I truly feel for anyone who has this condition. I’ve heard of it before, but never imagined so much pain!!!
The most annoying symptom of sciatica is of course – the pain. Most people describe it as a deep, severe pain that starts low on one side of the back and then moves down to the butt and the leg. You probably feel it worsen when you sit down or stand for a long time, or when you stand up after sitting low. Many things can make it worse also – coughing, sneezing, bending and even laughing. Here is a guide exercises for sciatica – the simple stretch to eliminate sciatic pain immediately.
Here’s how to do it, step by step:
1. Lye flat on your back. Once you are on your back, lift your right leg and place it over your left knee (the right ankle resting on the left knee).
2. Reach through with your right hand in between your legs and hug your left knee.
3. Take your right hand around the outside of your left knee and hug it. Your palms are now hugging your left knee together.
4. With both your hands, pull your left knee towards your chest.
5. Repeat on the other side with your right knee.
How to make it more effective
You can take this basic stretch and modify it to make it more effective.
1. Lye flat on your back and place your right leg over your left knee. This time – move your right leg so that your right knee is over your left knee. It’s like crossing your legs – just lying down.
2. Hug your left knee with both your hands and pull your knee to your chest.
Before you start your exercises for sciatica – please remember that even if this helps you (and it will!) – You are only temporarily relieving your pain and you are not curing the root cause of your sciatica!
I haven’t been to the dr. yet but from what I read online I suffer from sciatica…it comes and goes…I am about 30 pounds overweight and want to join a gym…I keep thinking if I take the weight off it will make my sciatica better, but I’m also afraid I will aggravate it by joining a gym…what should I do?
Yes, it is ok to exercise, but be gentle and listen to your body. Start slowly. Do not try to lift heavy weights. If you do strength training, make sure you use correct form – talk to a trainer at the gym. Focus on aerobic exercise that does not aggravate pain.
And check here. I treat may sciatica with the "tennis ball" treatment, and as weird as it sounds, it works.
